Funk, Design and The Fairy Queen

A lot of cool stuff happened the past weeks! Let's start this post with the cool concert I went to two weeks ago. Cory Henry and the Funk Apostles came back to Zürich, so my friend Gideon and I decided to go see the concert in Kaufleuten. And the coolest bit was, since I know one of the guys, we ended up being on the guest list and were able to see the concert for free! It was amazing if you want you should check out their new single "Trade It All"!
After the concert, we also hung out with them which was fun :)

Last weekend I went to the "Museum für Gestaltung" in Zürich. It's a really neat Swiss design museum in the centre and I wanted to visit it for weeks. The exhibition was about design combined with nature and movement. Here are some impressions:

Last, but not least, we had our choir concert last weekend. This time we sang The Fairy Queen by Henry Purcell, a truly magnificent piece! The exhausting thing was that we had to stand three times for three hours at the concert with a little break of 15 minutes. But I still enjoyed it a lot! :)

Monteverdi Concerts

The last week was so strenuous! Nearly every day we had many rehearsals, even until late at night. But it was totally worth the effort, because the concerts we had yesterday and the day before yesterday were amazing!
It was such a pleasure to finally perform the whole piece and to see the reactions of the listeners. One of my favourite moments was when one soloist went to the back of the hall and began singing there, every single head in the audience turned around trying to figure out where the sound was coming from.

It was a pleasure to sing Monteverdi, but now, after the many times we sung it, I am glad that we can move on to something else :)

One week of Monteverdi!

Spring has sprung, at least during the past few days I've spent in the choir-camp of our school. It was such a blast! On one hand we had to practise our Monteverdi for nine hours a day which was a pain sometimes, especially for voice and back, on the other hand we also had quite some free time which we spent outside playing Frisbee, lying on the grass on the lakeside or jammin' on one of the many pianos which were just standing around in the house :)

One really early morning I went up the hill to capture the sunrise with my drone, the lighting was so lovely!

In the late evenings we often sat at the lake singing songs and enjoying the first warm nights in this year!

On Thursday, the day we went back home, me and two friends decided to take the boat back to Biel because we all have a GA (a card with which you can literally travel around in the entirety of Swiss trains, buses and boats). It was a great idea because the boat trip and the view on the lake and mountains were amazing :D

In Biel we wandered around for a bit and then sat down at the river eating some chocolate.

Oh and just a funny picture of a guy who was sleeping with the jacket over his head on our trip home ^^

Today I had another band practise for our concert next week on Thursday (which by the way I'm gonna film and share ;) and now I'm off to cook in another camp with some of my friends in Jura, the north-west of Switzerland. I'm sure I'll have lots to tell you and some cool pictures next post!

Lots of band practice!

Finally the holiday started and I had a great first day in our school's choir week! We practice Monteverdi the entire day which was great and spent a nice time in the evening at the lakeside singing songs :)

This week I had so many band practises with our new group. I was asked if we would like to perform in three weeks time and then we decided to spontaneously form a group and start practicing. I think that it's actually going to turn out great because we already have a few cool songs in our repertoire.

Yesterday evening I also had a party at my home (after four hours of band-practise!), I made pizza dough so everyone could later put the topping they desire on it. We also played Singstar and watched a cool movie together! So a real fun evening :D

3 scholary concerts and Pop Up Market in Zürich

It was a very busy day today! In the morning I took the train with my mum to Zürich. First we went to the Apple Store to check out the new products that came out last month. We've spent nearly an hour drawing on the new iPad (which by the way is amazing).
Afterwards we went to get a few new winter clothes for me and went to a huge childrens' toy store. There they have a whole department just for miniature world trains and models. Since I want to continue my project on Miniature World Photography this was a brilliant opportunity to get lots of new ideas!
We were so exhausted because there were so many people in both the Apple and the toys store so we drank a hot chocolate in the café Sprüngli. We were really glad that there was two free seats so we sat down and there was an elderly art and theology professor sitting vis-à-vis. So we startedtalking to him and it did not seem to stop :)

Then we took the train to Stadelhofen where there was a market in the Maag Hall. It's called the Pop Up Market and exists in various countries. It's a design and fashion market and you know how much me and my mum love design stuff. And it was really wirth it going there! Lots pf cool market stands and lovely music playing in the background, just amazing!! We forgot to get some money but that was good; otherwise we would have spent soo much :P

Yesterday it was Matura presentation day which means that all the 4th class students who now finish the school and then will go to Uni or ETH, present their final projects. These vary from works about Ecology, to a musical and of course to concerts and music projects! Yesterday I saw two brilliant projects two friends of mine made, one about food/music and the other one about soundscape and minimal music. And today I saw a third one which was just amazing! One guy wrote a choir project with different songs from the media like the Mario Theme, Tetris theme, the main song from "The Undertaker" (one of my favourite Swiss TV shows), the theme of Assassins Creed, Battlefront, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Hobbit, etc.. And this was all linked with super cool little theatre acts.. If I find the recorded and filmed version of it I am so going to share it with you ;) !

See you next Saturday :) Marin
