Serigraphy Printing

This week, the first week of my summer holiday, I had a really cool Serigraphy or "Silkscreen" printing course with my mum at an art school in Zurich. The whole process was so fascinating and the results all looked so stunning!

In Serigraphy printing you have a very thin threaded sieve. The threads were very close together. Thinner ones to print on paper and larger spaces in between to print on textiles, because the colour pigments are larger.

These sieves are coated with a UV-reactive coating that hardens in UV light. In the final part of preparing your sieve is, that you have to block out the parts of the canvas where you later want the colour to get through. You can do this either by putting black paper on these spots or transparent paper on which you've painted with light-blocking, dark colours or on which you've printed with a normal printer.

After hardening the coating with UV light and rinsing the remainings off with water and drying the sieve, you can start printing.
You put the colour you want onto the sieve, flood the bit you want to print and then, with pressure, you print the picture!
The cool bit is that you can print multiple layers, that's the point where it really starts to get interesting because you can combine colours and get a depth-effect!

Drone Videography in Zürich!

Today I met up with Jonathan, a really cool dude who I met on our skiing holidays in the mountains. There we already went drone flying and thought we could do that again, this time in warmer weather :)
So we went to Zürich for the day to film some stuff and it was so much fun! Unfortunately I got some of the settings wrong, but I hope I can correct that in post production. I'll share it with you if it's finished ;)

But here's some pictures from up above the city :D

A really cool day in Zürich! Oh and military stuff..

First of all I want to talk about Switzerland and the compulsory military service we have here. Every male citizen here is obliged to go to the military, once they turn 18 years old; which means I had to go too. You still get the possibility to do civil services and not military, which is, in my opinion, a great option! So on Monday and Tuesday I had my recruitment. You have to do multiple different tests about your health, psychology and intelligence. And in my opinion the intelligence tests are basically just hilarious, especially the vocabulary test! There were questions like "what is a taboo" and one of the few options was "a native American boat" .. I think you get my point.. Hilarious!
Another odd thing was that, even if you want to do civil services, you get a position in the military and have to change it later at home. So I went to this guy who gives you your position, he asked my if I still plan to do civil services, "yes", and he said he'll give me the position of a paramedic. "Ok, no problem."
So after that, when I prepared to go home, a guy came to me "I see you signed up as a paramedic, you have to get a blood test now because only as a paramedic you have to."
Well.... thanks for the joke-material ^^

Other than that my mum and I planned to go to Zürich now for a while to get some stuff done, like getting a new spring/summer jacket for me and a new bag for her.
Yesterday morning I went a little earlier to Baden to take some pictures with my drone, because I want to apply at some architecture offices to maybe get some contracts to take pictures for them. So I decided to take some example pictures I can show them in advance :)

Later in Zürich we first went to a Popup Market which was a huge coincidence! My mum wanted to show me this really cool building, and without us even knowing, our favourite market was just taking place inside!

After that we found ourselves in a really nice organic and zerowaste shop called FOiFi, I took some cool pictures :)

And of course I got my new jacket and she got her cool new Freitag-Bag ;D

Probably the best Birthday ever!

Last week I started my three-week internship at the University of Zurich. I’m working at the movie sciences where I can help them doing their boring office stuff, but I can also learn a lot of practical things about old colouring methods, technical things and scanning old film.

Last Friday I had my birthday. In the morning I went to the Uni, did some film scanning and then went to eat lunch with them. One student even made an appetising chocolate cake for me which was so sweet!

Later that afternoon I had free time and went drone-filming at my school for a little project some of my friends are making. It’s about how our school is really ecological and recycles a lot of things :)
Then some friends of mine and I had a meet-up like every Friday with a lot of immigrants at our school. They come around, and we play some volleyball and football together which is a lot of fun, and it’s for a good cause because they can get to know others and speak German with us.
After preparing some really excellent food with a friend, I had a jam session in the evening. We thought we were way too late but then arrived just in time! It was a beautiful and unique jam session with some fresh ideas. They made people write words on paper, and we had to interpret these words into music which was funny and cool (sometimes a little bit chaotic too :). There were words like “Oriental” but also words like “Chives” :D The jam session went on until one o’clock in the morning!

On Saturday I hosted a party for my friend’s return from Guatemala and for my birthday. We made fondue for twelve people and had a lot of fun jamming again!

The same on Sunday when I invited my family over for cake and coffee, more cake, more cake!

More Drone Photography

As some of you might have noticed from previous posts, I've got myself a new photography tool: a drone. It's cool because it's quite tiny and lightweight. Therefore I can fit it into my backpack easily and take it with my wherever I go!
Just a couple hours ago I passed through Zürich to go to the mountains on ski holidays with my parents. I made a little stop in Zürich and flew a few miles around. Here are some of the pictures I took :)

Last weekend my parents and I went to Zuoz for two days. It's a village in the mountains near St. Moritz, tiny but beautiful! I flew around a bit too:

Some might wonder what is going on in this shot. I'll explain: I was actually lying on the floor in a small tower which had a big hole on the top. The rest of that tower was covered in snow (what you can see outside of the ring).

And here's another picture of Baden taken with the drone:

I hope you enjoyed this weeks post! Feel free to share it or leave a comment below :)

Photography project with a Syrian friend

This Saturday I met with three of my friends to go to Zürich to work on a project for our school. It's the third time we've met with our friend from Syria who is a photographer. We travel with him to different places in Switzerland to take some pictures of his opinion on our society and of the people living here. Later on we give him the opportunity to present his pictures in a sponsored exhibition and we analyse them and present his view on our culture.
Today worked out really well! We walked around a lot and he took loads of pictures :)
